Opening Reception

The community support and attendance for the opening reception for 1942: Luggage from Home to Camp was a tribute to the hardwork and efforts by Flo Oy Wong, her assistants, the volunteers and board of JAMsj, the 1942 Quilters, and the many people who contributed to the documenting of the exhibit in the commemorative booklet.

It was a time of recognition and celebration of the six internees who's stories were expressed in a unique and artistic way.

And it was a time to reflect on the trials and tribulations of Americans during fragile and uncertain times... a reminder that civil liberties cannot be taken for granted, and they must be protected and guarded to insure the freedom that we all enjoy as Americans.

Special recognition goes out to the honorable Congressman Mike Honda, California Arts Council member Jerry Hiura, the honorable congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, San Jose City Councilwoman Cindy Chavez, and the sponsors and supporters of 1942: Luggage from Home to Camp.
